Learning about equity and inclusion with 3rd grader students

The 3rd grade students were learning about their abilities, disabilities, physical disabilities and accessibility.

In their English classes, they learned which resources disabled people used to communicate and have their independence. After learning about Louis Braille, the children showed great interest in learning how the Braille System worked, which motivated us to learn a little about it.

Teaching Braille to non-blind children can be a powerful way to promote values and it helps students to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for disabled people. It can help them understand the challenges and experiences of people with visual impairments.

By learning to read and write in Braille, students can understand the importance of accessibility and the need to create inclusive environments and technologies. This can help promote empathy and respect for disabled people, as well as a sense of responsibility to promote equity and inclusion.

There were moments of great learning, interaction and discoveries.
